Ford founded the little magazine Blues as a teenager and later served as editor of the Surrealist magazine  View in New York City. He published 16 books of poetry between 1936 and 2001. He also published a novel,  The Young and Evil (1933), and a book of nonfiction,  Water From A Bucket: A Diary 1948-1957 (2001).
