Biographical Note

In 1962, Robert A. Herring III was a high-school student in Oxford, Miss. He lived with his family near the heart of campus, and Herring witnessed firsthand the events surrounding the University of Mississippi’s integration. Herring collected several scrapbooks of clippings that documented those events.

Scope and Content

The scrapbooks contain daily media accounts of the events surrounding James Meredith's enrollment at the University of Mississippi in 1962. Clippings come from Mississippi newspapers including the Oxford Eagle,  The Clarion-Ledger and the  Jackson Daily News. Each scrapbook is approximately 80 pages.
