- The oral histories in this collection document a sampling of musicians from in and just outside the Oxford, Mississippi area. The musicians represent a sampling of the large number of performers and musical styles from this area. The interviewers and sound engineers were students participating in the Library of Congress and American Music Archive sponsored Field School for Cultural Documentation which occurred during the 2007-2010 May intersessions at the University of Mississippi.

Historical Note
The American Music Archive at the University of Mississippi sponsored the Field School for Cultural Documentation program of The American Folklife Center at the Library of Congress. These Field School programs at the University of Mississippi focused on teaching participants how to properly collect oral histories, interview subjects, operate audio recording equipment, create audio logs, etc. Library of Congress members Michael Taft, David Taylor, and Guha Shanker, along with David Wharton from the Center for the Study of Southern Culture at the University of Mississippi ran the program. Student participants were from Southern Studies, music, and history. The major focus of the field schools was on music in and around Oxford, Mississippi.

There are no restrictions on who may access the materials in this collection; however, several interview subjects have requested that they must be contacted if any of these materials are to be used in any form of publication (radio, web broadcast, article, book, etc.).
Copyright Restrictions
The copyright law of the United States (Title 17, United States Code) governs the making of photocopies or other reproductions of copyrighted material. Under certain conditions specified in the law, libraries and archives are authorized to furnish a photocopy or other reproduction.
