Biographical Note

John Egerton was born in Atlanta, GA on June 14, 1935. He earned a B.A. at the University of Kentucky in 1958 and an M.A. in 1960. Egerton worked with the Public Relations Department at the University of Kentucky and went on to become the Director of Public Information for the University of South Florida, where he wrote for both the Southern Education Report and Race Relations Reporter. In 1971, Egerton became a free-lance reporter and later became contributing editor for Saturday Review of Education, Race Relations Reporter, and Southern Voices. Egerton then became a writer for Atlanta’s Southern Regional Council and then served as journalist-in-residence at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University. Egerton has written or edited eleven non-fiction books and contributed over two-hundred articles to periodicals.


Scope and Content Note

This collection includes recipes, articles focusing on southern food, and articles, menus, publications, and information about restaurants that serve southern food. It also includes articles written by and about John Egerton and basic information for his novel Southern Food.
