Biographical Note
Bill Fitzhugh was born in Jackson, Mississippi in 1957. He worked in radio at WZZQ-FM in Jackson during and after high school. He lived briefly on St. John in the U.S. Virgin Islands before returning to Mississippi where he attended Belhaven College and the University of Southern Mississippi, where he worked as a program director, music director, and DJ at WHSY-FM. After moving to Seattle to attend the University of Washington in 1981, he spent time collaborating with Matt Hansen on “Radio Free Comedy,” a comedic radio program which they later produced as a TV pilot called Stellavision. Fitzhugh moved to Los Angeles in 1988 and his writing partner, Matt Hansen, followed a year later. Fitzhugh worked as a paralegal while pursuing TV writing jobs. Fitzhugh and Hansen wrote a screenplay called “Pest Control”, but it was rejected by every studio in Hollywood. He later adapted the screenplay into a novel and found an agent in New York by the name of Jimmy Vines who sold the film rights for the novel to Warner Brothers in 1995. Vines then sold publishing rights to Avon Books in the U.S. as well as publishers in the U.K., Germany, Italy, Japan, and other countries. In 2008, “Pest Control” was produced as a stage musical in Los Angeles. It was also adapted into a radio drama in Germany. Since then, Fitzhugh has written and published several more books, including a sequel to Pest Control called The Exterminators (published by Poisoned Pen Press). He has also written short stories, screenplays, and stage plays. From 2007 to 2012, he wrote, produced, and hosted “Fitzhugh’s All Hand Mixed Vinyl” on Sirius-XM Satellite Radio’s Deep Tracks channel. He resides in Los Angeles, California.
