Biographical Note

W. Ralph Eubanks was born in Mount Olive, Mississippi. He graduated from the University of Mississippi in 1978 and earned a master’s degree from the University of Michigan in 1979. Eubanks then served as chief copy editor for the Journal of Geophysical Research in Washington, D.C. from 1979-1984 before working as a technical editing manager for the American Psychological Association until 1989. Eubanks returned to the American Psychological Association in 1990 as Director of APA Books after working for a year as managing editor for Hemisphere/Taylor & Francis. In 1995, Eubanks began working for the Library of Congress as Director of Publishing, where he remained until 2013. He then worked as editor of the Virginia Quarterly Review from 2013-2015 before serving as the Eudora Welty Visiting Scholar in Southern Studies at Millsaps College in Jackson beginning in 2016. Eubanks is the author of two books, Ever is a Long Time (2003) and  The House at the End of the Road (2009), and has also published numerous articles for The Washington Post, The Chicago Tribune, Preservation, and other publications. Eubanks received a Guggenheim Fellowship from 2007-2008, was the Frederick Douglass Visiting Fellow at Washington College in 2007, and also served as the Bernard Schwartz Fellow at The New America Foundation from 2008-2009.
