Biographical Note
In 1993, Mrs. Susie Marshall received a Mississippi Humanities Council Grant for her coordinated project “Changes in the Senior Sewing and Savings Club, the Oxford Development Association, and the Mississippi Humanities Council", the project consisted of three public presentations held in the spring of 1996.
From this initial grant project, the idea to chronicle the history of the African-American community developed. Participants were asked to write a short family narrative and give artifacts when possible. These materials form the nucleus of the collection.
Scope and Content
This collection primarily contains photographs, correspondence, programs, and handwritten or typed histories of families and community members which were collected by Susie Marshall and Niler Franklin.
