Biographical Note

Dr. Charles Regan Wilson is an emeritus professor of history and southern studies at University of Mississippi. He is the author of Baptized in Blood: The Religion of the Lost Cause, 1865-1920 (1980), Judgment and Grace in Dixie: Southern Faiths from Faulkner to Elvis (1995), and numerous other publications. In addition, he is the co-editor of the Encyclopedia of Southern Culture, The New Encyclopedia of Southern Culture, and The Mississippi Encyclopedia. Dr. Wilson attended the University of Texas in El Paso where he earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees. He earned his doctoral degree at the University of Texas in Austin. He taught at the University of Mississippi from 1981 to 2014 in addition to teaching at the University of Wurzburg in Germany, and the University of Texas, El Paso, and Texas Tech University. He was Kelly Gene Cook Sr. Chair of History and Professor of Southern Studies. He served as the Director of the Center for the Study of Southern Culture from 1998 to 2007.

The collection contains assessments, budget & fundraising documents, correspondence, notes, source materials, photographs, proposals, manuscript drafts and other materials relating to Dr. Charles R. Wilson and Center for the Study of Southern Culture. In addition, it includes research material related to his Encyclopedia of Southern Culture, The New Encyclopedia of Southern Culture, and The Mississippi Encyclopedia. Finally, the collection includes 1 cassette tape and 3 CDs.
