Biographical Note
Dr. Edmund Keiser earned his bachelor’s and master’s degree from Southern Illinois University. He earned his doctorate from Louisiana State University. He began working at the University of Mississippi Department of Biology in 1976. Dr. Keiser served as the chair of the department from 1976 to 1987. He continued his research in wildlife biology by working for and with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks (MDWFP), and NASA. He helped demonstrate the profound influence of amphibians and reptiles on woodland and aquatic ecosystems and on other species populations. He officially retired in 2005 and was awarded professor emeritus. He still teaches the occasional class and conducts research. There was a $100,000 faculty support endowment established in his name by an anonymous donor.
