Biographical Note

Joshua Kelley, patriarch of the Kelley Family, was born in Barren County, Kentucky on 20 September 1813. After purchasing a home in 1837, Kelley moved to Mississippi with his wife, the former Isabella Burns; his older sister Mary; and her husband John Davis. Joshua Kelley and his family settled in Port Gibson, where he prospered as a blacksmith until his death in September 1864.

Scope and Content Note

There are a number of artifacts that belonged to Joshua Kelley; however, this collection largely consists of family heirlooms that belonged to his descendants, primarily Robert Capers Kelley and his wife Flora Little Kelley.

In the same vein as his mother, Flora, Robert Charles Kelley, Sr. continued tracing and collecting genealogical information on his family. There is an extensive amount of genealogical research material included in this collection that traces the Kelley lineage as well as the ancestry of the Little Family.

The items found in this collection remained in the possession of the family until they were donated in 2006 by the grandson of Robert Charles Kelley, Sr., Robert Bernard Kelley.
