Abstract:
The Mitchell Family Marshall County Collection consists of photographs, tintypes, a calendar, ledgers, books (including family Bibles and a Dictionary),an Antebellum hair comb,  as well as photocopies and original documents pertaining to the early 1800s through the late 1900s in Marshall and other surrounding counties. The collection includes information on: War Claims, an Oath of Allegiance, the Court Case of Rev. H. H. Paine, the Yellow Fever Epidemic, Family Histories, procedures for Midwives, Farm Ledgers, Insurance Policies, Tax Receipts, Deeds of Sales, and the Presidents of Mississippi Education Association.

Published by the Bible Publishing House, Syracuse, N.Y., 1886. The Bible has metal clasps and two inscriptions on the inside cover. The first inscription reads: "Presented to Lelia H. Willis by David H. Willis on Dec. 25, 1889." The second inscription reads: "Margaret main died Feb. 17, 1976 leaving this Bible to R. L. (Bob) Mitchell Feb. 22, 1976. At my death this Bible goes to my son Bobby Joe Mitchell. R. L. Mitchell died Nov. 17, 1977.".

Glover Family of Marshall County War Claims. 1989 (originals: 1870s). Photocopies.
Apparently, Ella Reynolds Emery, a distant relative of James Glover, received a copy of these proceedings from a friend who had requested the copy from the U. S. Government. Ella Reynolds Emery in turn sent a copy onto Bobby Mitchell. The purpose of these pleadings were to prove the loyalty of James Glover, his sons and his family to the US and then to establish the damage that the northern army did to his farm, stock, etc..
