Historical Note
The patriarch of the family was Archibald Woodall, born in Georgia circa 1810.  He married Jemima (maiden name unknown) and moved to Yalobusha County, Mississippi around 1840.  They apparently settled in an area of Yalobusha County named Pilgrim's Rest connected to the "Georgia Colony" of Oglethorpe.  Many of the documents name Arch, A., and Archibald Sr. & Jr.  Other frequent names include Mrs. Vick Woodall, J.W. Woodall, Annis Woodall, and Wilton Price Woodall.

Scope and Contents Note
The collection primarily contains land deeds and other financial documents dating between 1840 and 2004 (bulk 1840-1920) related to the Woodall Family in Yalbusha County, Mississippi.  It also includes some genealogical material and correspondence.  Of particular note are three presidential land deeds dating from 1848 and 1849. These deeds, signed by the secretaries of James K. Polk and Zachary Taylor, grant lands gained from treaties with the Chickasaw Indians to Archibald Woodall in Yalobusha County, Mississippi.
