Lewis Nordan SMMSS (MUM00337). The Department of Archives and Special Collections, J.D. Williams Library, The University of Mississippi.
The Mississippi native's stories are set in the heart of the Mississippi Delta and have recurring themes and characters, focusing on modern reality while tying in the larger-than-life stories of the past. Nordan is not influenced by Latin-American writers such as Gabriel Garcia Marquez, who also use magical realism in their stories, although Nordan is familiar with their works. "Welcome to the Arrow-Catcher Club," "The All-Girl Football Team" and "Sugar Among the Freaks" are a few of Nordan's short-story collections. Nordan's works have been received with praise from the "New York Times Book Review" and have been published in "The Southern Review," Greensboro Review," "Harper's" and "Redbook."
