Biographical Note
Beckett Howorth grew up in West Point, Miss. Howorth attended the University of Mississippi,
worked for three summers as an engineer on the Mississippi River, and earned his M.D.
at Washington University in Saint Louis, Mo. After training as a surgeon and orthopedist
in New York, Howorth taught and practiced at Columbia University until 1951, when
he moved his practice to Connecticut. In 1981 he and his wife moved to Jackson, Miss.,
where he served as Clinical Professor at the University of Mississippi Medical Center.
Scope and Content Note
The collection chiefly contains writings by Beckett Howorth. Some are biographical;
others are medical articles. Also included are bibliographies of Howorth's writings
and various other materials.
