Biographical Note

A native of Trinity, Alabama, Eugene Beverly Ferris was associated with Agricultural Extension work in Mississippi for more than fifty years. Ferris was a graduate of Mississippi A and M College, now Mississippi State, and was appointed the first superintendent of the first branch experiment station located in McNeil, in south Mississippi. He would later become an agronomist for the Mississippi Extension Service, and in 1937 was appointed the superintendent of the Holly Springs Experiment Station. A landowner in his own right, Ferris has been the subject of features in the The Progressive Farmer,  Southern Agriculturalist , and  Country Life. Additionally, Ferris was also the author of a History of the Experiment Stations of Mississippi as well as a number of articles over the course of his career.
