Computing in the Libraries
The University of Mississippi Libraries currently has 182 public computers in service throughout the J. D. Williams Library and the Science Library. This number includes public workstations and classroom desktops and laptops. We have a total of 149 PCs and 18 iMacs available with varied operating systems and software.
Computer Use and Privacy
You do not need to login to use any library computer, they are available for anyone to use. If the computer you want to use displays a login screen, please turn the machine off and back on again.
While working on a library public computer, we recommend you save your work to a personal flash drive or email it to yourself. Anything you leave on a library public computer is viewable by others until the computers are rebooted automatically which happens once a day in the late evening. Upon reboot all saved work is deleted.
We highly recommend not saving passwords, doing banking, using your credit card or other types of security intensive tasks on publicly shared computers. If you do need to use library computers for these types of activities, be sure to log out of whatever service you are using when you are finished, clear your browser history and close the browser.
