Access Policy
The policies included in the University of Mississippi Access Policy apply to the J. D. Williams Library and the Science Library, which is located in Thad Cochran Research Center. The Archives and Special Collections unit, which is located within the J. D. Williams Library, has a separate Access Policy.
Privacy and Confidentiality
The Libraries’ intent is to protect the privacy of each individual’s intellectual investigations. Confidentiality of users’ transactions with the Libraries, which includes the information concerning the use of the Libraries’ services and resources, will not be released except upon receipt of a lawfully issued subpoena, search warrant or other judicial order.
Definition of Library Services
Full Library services are available to currently enrolled University of Mississippi students, currently employed faculty, emeritus faculty and staff from the main campus in Oxford and the Tupelo and Southaven branch campuses.
Full services include:
- On-site access to the two library facilities in Oxford, J. D. Williams & Science Library.
- On-site access to computer workstations with productivity software and laser printing
- Access to Electronic Resources, on-site and remote
- Interlibrary Loan Service
- Borrowing privileges for circulating collections.
- Reference and Instruction Services
Basic Library services are available to individuals who are not currently affiliated with the University including UM Alumni, and Mississippi residents with a valid driver’s license.
Basic Library services include:
- On-site access to the facilities at the University of Mississippi Libraries.
- On-site use of computers and most electronic resources (some restrictions apply).
- Borrowing privileges for circulating collections.
- Basic reference service.
Interlibrary Loan, including document delivery, and remote access to electronic resources are not included in basic library services.
Responsible Use of Electronic Resources
Electronic resources available from the Libraries’ web site are licensed by the University of Mississippi Libraries for the non-commercial use by current UM faculty, staff and students, and on-site visitors to the UM Libraries for educational and research purposes only. Unlawful use of these resources can result in suspension of access privileges.
