Biographical Note

John F. Kennedy served as the thirty-fifth president of the United States from 20 January 1961 until his assassination on
22 November 1963.

The donor and collector Tyrone Keith Yates was born in Cincinnati, Ohio in 1954 and earned a B.A. in history from the University
of Cincinnati and a J.D. from the University of Toledo College of Law. Yates has pursued further studies at the Harvard Law
School and Harvard’s John F. Kennedy School of Government.

Yates’ distinguished career in public service includes stints as a State of Ohio Assistant Attorney General, Vice-Mayor of
Cincinnati and member of the Cincinnati City Council (1990-1999), a Democratic member of the Ohio House of Representatives
(2003-2010), and a Hamilton County Municipal judge (2011- ).

The collection evolved from Judge Yates’ research interests in the 1962 integration of the University of Mississippi by James
H. Meredith during the Kennedy Administration.

candidates. The material is arranged in seven boxes according to format and size: Box 1 holds smaller printed material like
pamphlets and bumper stickers and Box 2 oversized items. Although largely organized by chronology, later additions to the
collection are added at the end of the box. Boxes 3 through 6 contain artifacts, and Boxes 7 through 9 hold additional oversized
