Biographical Note

In 1962, Ed Meek took a job as staff writer in the university’s public relations office. Two years later, at age 24, he became
UM’s youngest-ever department head and helped shape the university’s image. Meek worked at the University for 37 years, as
both Assistant Vice Chancellor for Public Relations and Marketing and Associate Professor of Journalism. He earned a Bachelor
of Science in journalism in 1961, and a Master of Arts in liberal arts with an emphasis in journalism in 1963. He later earned
a doctorate in communications from the University of Southern Mississippi.
