Biographical Note
The Varsity Voice: A Weekly Journal of College Life was established in 1907 through joint efforts of the University Athletics Department
and the Young Men’s Christian Association (Y.M.C.A.). The Voice“will be a journal of college life, containing athletic news, locals from the campus,
and town, editorials, and other matter of interest to the sons and daughters of ‘Ole
Miss’ both on and away from campus” (v.1 n.1, 1 June 1907).
The University Record was established in 1898 as one of the three main University of Mississippi student
periodicals. According to the 17 May 1902 issue (v.4 n.27), The University Record“is primarily for the local happenings at the Varsity and is considered the official
organ of the Athletic Association.” Published each Wednesday, the Record also included student news and commentary on school spirit.
Scope and Content Note
The collection contains issues of The Varsity Voice, dated 1907 and 1910, and The University Record, dated 1902.
