Historical Note
The original Oxford, Miss. railroad depot was built in the 1850s and destroyed in the Civil War. The current depot building
dates to 1872. Passenger trains traveled through the depot until 1941, when passenger service was discontinued. Freight continued
to pass through the Oxford depot until 1982, when the southbound track out of Oxford was officially abandoned.
The depot was purchased by the University of Mississippi in 1983. It currently serves as a space for lectures and other public
events.

Scope and Content
The collection contains materials related to the Oxford, Miss. railroad depot. Included are train schedules, routes, and other
materials related to the depot’s operation in the 1910s-1920s. Also included is a train schedule, 1956, and materials related
to the depot’s later incarnation as a historical site.
