In 1953, Woodie Assaf, joined WLBT (Jackson, MS) as the station’s weatherman. Assaf was noted for being the longest TV weatherman for the same station-almost 48 years. The Clarion Ledger, a Mississippi based newspaper, named him the most popular TV personality of the millennium in the state. Assaf was an advocate for the state; and hosted a number of benefits and telethons that raised millions for worthy causes.
The collection contains primarily black and white photos of Woodie Assaf; exterior shots of Sunflower grocers in the 1950’s-1960’s; and various Assaf affiliates. The photographs are in originally order as received. The inventory includes an folder listing of photographs. The letters and numbers next to the folder description (ex: b/w, 2) indicates black and white and the number of photographs in the folder.
