Biographical Note

Thomas Ramage Ethridge was born 2 May 1918 in West Point, Miss. Ethridge earned several
degrees from the University of Mississippi. He served in the United States Marine
Corps, 4th Marine Division, from 1941-1946, participating in battles in the Pacific
at Roi-Namur, Saipan, Tinian and Iwo Jima; he retired as a Major. Ethridge served
as a Mississippi State Senator from 1948-1954 and the first full-time United States
Attorney for the Northern District of Mississippi from 1954-1961. He later worked
in private law practice and as a professor of law at the University of Mississippi
Law School. Ethridge died 29 August 2010.

The collection contains letters sent from Thomas Ethridge to members of his family
during his service in World War II.
