Biographical Note
Born in 1924 in Liberty Mississippi, Campbell received an A.B. from Wake Forest in 1948 and a B.D. from Yale in 1952. He served as pastor of the Baptist church in Taylor, LA from 1952-1954 and was director of religious life at the University of Mississippi from 1954-1956. From 1956 to 1963 he worked for the National Council of Churches. He wrote Race and the Renewal of the Church
in 1962.After 1963 he became a preacher-at-large for the Committee of Southern Churchmen and eventually served as the director of the Committee. He was actively involved in the civil rights movement in Mississippi.
