Biographical Note

Will D. Campbell was born 18 July 1924 in Liberty, Miss. Campbell earned degrees from
Wake Forest College (now Wake Forest University) and Yale Divinity School. He worked
as a Baptist minister in Louisiana from 1952-1954, then became Director of Religious
Life at the University of Mississippi. Campbell, an ardent supporter of civil rights,
left the University after two years to serve on the National Council of Churches in
New York as a race relations consultant. Campbell has authored and edited numerous
works, including fiction, nonfiction, and children’s books.
