Biographical Note

George W. Boswell (1920-1995) was a professor of English at the University of Mississippi
in the 1970s. As a respected folklorist, Boswell’s research interests included county
folklore, folk customs, and folk music of Mississippi. Boswell was a past president
of the Tennessee, Kentucky, and Mississippi Folklore Societies, and the founder of
the Oxford (Miss.) Madrigal Society.


Scope and Content Note

The collection contains stories, historical sketches, manuscripts, sheet music, and
other materials relating to George W. Boswell’s folklore research.
