Exhibit Areas

The J.D. Williams Library hosts several different exhibits throughout the year. In addition to the four physical exhibit areas listed below, the Libraries also offer online exhibits. We are currently in the process of building a new online exhibit web application called “Exhibit Space” but for now you can still access many of our online exhibits through the Archives and Special Collections Exhibit site. 

Exhibit Areas in the J.D. Williams Library

Faulkner Room

The Faulkner Room is named after William Faulkner, an American writer and Nobel Prize laureate from Oxford, Mississippi.  The room can comfortably seat about 80 people and it is used primarily for Special Collections presentations, brown bags, and selected public events. There is a computer, projector, and screen in this room. If you are interested in using this room for a public University related event, please contact Archives and Special Collections.

DIRECTIONS: Enter the J.D. Williams Library from the West (fountain) side and come up the elevator or the stairs. Wind your way to the east side of the building, past the Writing Center and Administrative Suite. Archives and Special Collections is through the glass doors at the opposite end of the hall. The Faulkner Room is located within Archives and Special collections on your left.

Lawrence Room

The Lawrence Room was named after publisher Seymour Lawrence. Lawrence published authors such as Kurt Vonnegut, Jr., Tim O’Brien, Susan Minot, Barry Hannah, to name a few.

The Seymour Lawrence Room located in the Department of Archives & Special Collections, third floor of the J.D. Williams Library, features an exhibit devoted to the life and work of publisher Seymour Lawrence. The room can comfortably sit 10 people, but is used primarily by Special Collections staff to work with donors or have departmental meetings.

Directions:

Enter the J.D. Williams Library from the West (fountain) side and come up the elevator or the stairs. Wind your way to the east side of the building, past the Writing Center and Administrative Suite. Archives and Special Collections is through the glass doors at the opposite end of the hall. The Lawrence Room is located within Archives and Special Collections.

If you enter from the second floor east (Lyceum) side, come up the stairs and find that Archives and Special Collections is through the glass doors on your left. The Faulkner Room is located within Archives and Special Collections.

Second Floor Exhibit Hall

The 2nd Floor Exhibit Hall consists of two areas.

The glass case area has 2 large glass enclosed exhibit cases which house small library exhibits. The small exhibits rotate several times a year. 

The hanging exhibit area shows posters and photographs from the library collections. 

 

Directions:

Enter the J.D. Williams Library from the West (fountain) side and come up the elevator or the stairs. Go east and you will pass into the 2nd Floor Exhibit Hall.

If you enter from the second floor east (Lyceum) side, go up the stairs or take the elevator, walk east and enter the 2nd Floor Exhibit Hall.

Lawrence Room

The Third Floor Exhibit Hall has cases which hold rotating displays from the collections within Archives and Special Collections. Some University of Mississippi related historical documents are on semi-permanent display. 

“There is always something interesting in those display cases!”

Directions:

Enter the J.D. Williams Library from the West (fountain) side and come up the elevator or the stairs. Wind your way to the east side of the building, past the Writing Center and Administrative Suite. The Third Floor Display Cases are located in the hall.

If you enter from the second floor east (Lyceum) side, come up the stairs and find that the Third Floor Display Cases are located in the hall.
