Code of Conduct
Welcome to the University of Mississippi Libraries. Members of the university community and visitors are welcome to use the Libraries’ collections and services. The Libraries strive to provide high quality collections, information resources and equipment. The Libraries seek to provide a safe, secure environment for reading, studying and other activities associated with learning and research.
Library users will:
- Use e-mail and internet resources within the guidelines of the University computer use policies, including the IT Appropriate Use Policy
- Present identification upon request
- Comply with Library circulation policies
- Comply with emergency procedures and security gate alarms
- Leave buildings at closing
- Refrain from use of cell phones or Library staff phones
Library users will not:
- Engage in threatening or unsafe behaviors
- Vend or peddle in the Libraries
- Use alcohol, tobacco or controlled substances
- Remove Library materials or equipment from the building without having checked them out
- Deface or damage library materials including, but not limited to, underlining, highlighting, removing pages or security devices
- Misuse or damage library furniture, equipment, including computer equipment
- Bring animals, other than service animals, into Libraries
- Allow others to use their nontransferable UM WebID or borrower card except for approved proxies
- Leave personal belongings unattended
Library users found in violation of this code of conduct may be asked to present identification to Library staff; may be subject to search of backpack or bags; may be asked to leave the premises, and may be reported to the University police.
