Biographical Note

Virginia Boatright (“Crow”) Callon lived in Shelby, Miss. She was married to Robert
Callon, a veteran of World War I. After his death in 1944, Virginia Callon took a
job as Hostess of the Student Union at the University of Mississippi. She held the
position for 17 years. She died in 1973.


Scope and Content Note

The collection contains documents related to the life of Virginia Callon. The bulk
of the collection is financial and legal material, including insurance records, tax
documents, medical receipts, and documents related to the settling of Callon’s estate
after her death. There is one folder of material related to Callon’s employment at
the University of Mississippi. Also included are a few military records related to
Robert Callon’s service in World War I, as well as correspondence between Virginia
Callon and the Veterans Administration related to the benefits she received as Robert’s
widow. The collection also includes a small amount of personal correspondence, mostly
from actress and former Miss America Mary Ann Mobley, with whom Callon was apparently
close friends.
